ReProgramming Haley

When working to redesign Haley we wanted to explore different ways that we could re-orient Haley by looking at what we already had with the existing building as well as the location. With the prime spot of Haley and Thach Concourses the possibilities of increasing student interaction are vital. We created five different options all offering their own unique designs and differences that each transform the building as it is currently used.

Scheme A: Give prominence to the corner of the Haley and Thach concourses. Each primary program type - retail, students, and faculty - has a spot on the corner. Retail wraps the perimeter of the ground level with students embedded off the promenade. Faculty is given most of Level 2 and all of Level 3.

Scheme B: Gives ground level to the public and all the above levels to faculty. Ground level is split between retail and student services while more program is given to faculty on Levels 2 and 3. The offset penthouses allow for more light to penetrate the center of each quad.

Scheme C: Integrate and stack different programs on all three floors in order to promote community between students and faculty rather than division between floors.

Schemes D + E: Create a promenade through the building to create distinct and separated functional bars rather than quads. Ground level is split between students and retail. Level 2 is split between students and faculty. All of level 3 is given to faculty.
